Connection of Rail&Road Routes of Iran & Afghanistan

 
 

They began to construct Dogharoon – Heart route and connecting Torbat Heidariyeh railway to Sangan on 7th Khordad of the current year, by the attending of minister of Road & Transportation Organization and managing director of  IRI Railway. One of the major divisions of Bafgh – Mashad Railway, the administrative operation of which is taken, is the construction of Torbat Heidariyeh – Sangan mine railway ( about 148 KM ) where is near to Afghanistan border. The mentioned Railway is designed for carrying of about 2 Million Ton iron stone in a year.

This railway begins from Torbat Heidariyeh station ( which is located at Bafgh- Mashad route ) and it is connected to Sangan Mine after passing Rashtkhar, Rood. Sangan route up to Heart begins from south of Dogharoon then it is connected to Heart beside Harirrood river. Constructing Torbat Heidariyeh – Sangan Railway project is considered as one of the most important projects of Bafgh-Mashad project, the credit of which is provided from the construction credits used for under construction projects and construction of major ones is asked from contractors.

As it was reported by general communications of  IRI Railway, at present time Iran Railway network is expanding toward Sangan ironstone mine where is near to Taybad.

This railway provides iron stones that are required by Khorasan Steel Complex and by continuing this railwat on the way of Sangan – Heart ,where has a suitable geographical position for constructing Railways, a suitable place for trading with Afghanistan and Transit affairs are made.

Herat is located at 2800 km away from Afghanistan highway. This highway begins from Torghandi ( Afghanistan & Turkmenistan border) and it continues toward Ghandhar by passing from Heart via South. Then it expands from Ghandhar to Kabul. From there it goes toward Mazar-Sharif at the north of country. Then it is connected to Uzbekistan & Tadjikistan into two directions. Also compound transportation is made possible by connecting Iran Railway to this highway.

This highway is the most important connecting way of Afghanistan and all transportations by road in Afghanistan is undertaken via this highway.

This report shows the importance of Heart where is located at the west of Afghanistan which is similar to the important role that Mashad plays in economy of east part of  Iran. Besides it is very important to technical & economical affairs as a de facto marketing for exporting petroleum products, Metals and the other industrial goods . Besides constructing the above mentioned Railway increases the cultural & social similarities between Afghanistan & Iran people.

According to this report, the first steps for constructing North – South Corridor began after signing agreement by Iran, India and Russia at Saint Petersburg in 1379. Then all of these partners decided to take this corridor in operation promptly. Also by construction of Heart – Sangan Railway, Afghanistan gained a suitable time to export its products and industrial goods to the European countries via IRI Railway. Besides since Islamic Republic Of Iran has been a pioneer country at establishing Railway lines and it is a member of International Railway Union and since IRI Railway network is connected to Europe Railway via Razi border, there is options in choosing standard width of Rail lines which is 1435 mm.
