Port of Khazar (Amir Abad)

the Connection Ring of North-South Track

There are two objections foreseen for this port. The main port is to complete the number 9 north-south route (NOSTRAC) and considering the onward rail connection facility in the port in to a special economic zone. Anzali is not a large port and can only be used to import raw materials and goods whereas the main purpose of the SEZ is to export non-oil products and process raw materials in its factories. So with 200 hectares of area it is expected good investment in production activities.

The above table shows clearly the cost and time effectiveness of this route as compared to others.

The port shall have three basins of 5 million MT capacities each. The planned piers include containers, RO- RO, general cargo, railed RO_RO and Dolphin piers exclusive for oil products. There are 3 factors considered in choosing a transit route by the cargo owner: 1) cost 2) time and 3) security. As readily observed by the table, Iran is the best possible choice as far as time 8 cost factors are connected , offering 15 to 17 days advantage over other route. Security is a conceptual factor which this route seems to enjoy this factor too.
